What It’s All About: My Blog
This blog was created to gather information about international sex trafficking with a special focus on the domestic trafficking within Cambodia. The intention of this blog is to raise awareness of the social justice issue and cultivate compassion for the victims of the sex trade.
At the first wave of research I see that Cambodia is one of the poorest countries in the world. Desperation of people looking for good work is high. In an environment of desperation, there is an increased number of people looking to exploit others around them and also an increase in trusting citizens looking for work that get decieved and then exploited. Women looking for jobs have been told about an opportunity in honest work, but then are forced into sexual servitude in brothels.
Some of the major issues involved that are initially evident are:
-
The creation of effective law by policy makers
-
The enforcement of law without corruption of the Cambodian authorities
-
International border control with Cambodia’s neighboring countries
-
The rescue, rehabilitation, and protection of victims of sex trafficking
-
International cooperation and funding of anti-sex trafficking in Cambodia
